Every time I try to make a post with an attachment on my forum I get an error saying:
"Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow."
This problem started a couple years back when we built a new server for our website and went from version 6.? to 7.?. We recently upgraded again to sme 8.1beta and I was really hoping this problem would fixed itself so that I could go back to using my forum properly. A few years back when I was on an older 6.? version everything worked great, now not so much.
Along with the sme upgrades I have also upgraded the forum (simple machines forum) to SMF2.0.6 (currently).
Over the past couple years I keep coming back to this to see if I can fix it but I am at a point now of just throwing my hands up after hours if not days of searching and testing to figure this out.
Currently I do have the file permissions on the forum set to (chmod: 0777). Attachment setting are set to "no limit".
I know that this contribs site is run using SMF as well so I am hoping someone on here can help me figure this out. With my research on the SMF site there are others that have had this issue and most of the time they all say its settings within the server not the forum.
Someone please help or point me in the right direction.
Thank you,

Why did you wait so long, this should be relatively easily fixed on all those older & current versions of sme server.
My guess is the following (for starters).
There is more info that may also help, but try this & let us know the outcome.

Edit:
Also see this article, but please ensure you read it all as there are many settings mentioned that may affect your SMF install, particularly PHPBaseDir & upload temp dir.

Report back your success or otherwise.
You can search the forums on these terms mentioned for many examples of practical usage.
