Title: web filtering timed enabled / disabled
Post by: hawk on February 28, 2014, 05:24:13 AM
hi to all you very cleaver SME people.

I was wondering if this is possible. I use web filtering and am very happy with it. Is there perhaps any way that it can be set to operate at certain times. For instance, at 07h00 each morning it will be enabled and then at 17h00 be disabled again.

Example I have a school where we block facebook during the day but want to open it at night, i am not very keen to do this manually.

Your thoughts
many thanks
john

I do a similar thing with Dansguardian.
I have 2 sets of config files (eg day & night), one to allow unblocked access from all workstations (eg for updates & maintenance etc) & the other to enable filtering.
I created a morning & afternoon cron job to copy the appropriate file set to the main Dansguardian config & then restart Dansguardian so the new config takes effect.

I do not know which "web filtering" you refer to, so cannot comment more specifically.

The cron jobs could run the command(s) to enable & disable filtering, the same as the panel does when you select Active etc.
Look in /var/log/messages around the time you manually enable & disable filtering using the server manager panel.
Also it should be listed somewhere in
config show |more
