Title: version for new install
Post by: magwm on April 15, 2014, 10:38:05 AM
Hello and good day to all,

I am starting to install a new server on new hardware, and I will likely spend some time (weeks) to configure it to subsitute our ageing SME7 server...

Now my question is: should I start with SME9b4 or SME8??

I have been away a while from contribs.org so I don't know the current state, and haven't have time to follow new developments.

I _should_ be able to upgrade SME9b4 to rc1 to release 1 right?

cordially

Michel from Italy

SME Server 9.0 Beta 4 looks to be in very good shape so please consider it, however the official advice for production servers would have to be 8.1.

Personally I migrated from SME 7.6 to 9.0 Beta 4, accepting that there is a small risk of using 9.0 whilst in Beta.
Updating from Beta 4 to RC1 and Final is intended to be an in-place upgrade.
