Title: Don't have a cdrom
Post by: Alijah on August 13, 2002, 07:28:30 AM
The system  i want to install E-smith on is kind of hard to work on. The CD-Rom has been removed. Is there a way to install without a cdrom. There is a floppy drive and 6.4 GB HD.
Thanks
Alijah

Save yourelf the aggravation and install one temporarily.  Thats what I did on my server.  Once you've finished the install you can remove the CDROM drive without any problems.

Hmmm well when I did that SME just hung at the MITEL splash screen, but once i replaced the cdrom, it botted fine, removed, hung again, replaced fine, etc etc etc.

Does your BIOS auto-detect the drives?  Or, are they manually set?  The reason I ask is that your BIOS might still think you have a CD-ROM, and it might be telling SME server that you have a CD-ROM.

Just something to check.

Otherwise, there is probably a boot configuration file or setting somewhere that is telling SME to mount your cdrom.

My home file server runs quite well with no floppy drive or CDROM now that it's done ... I tinkered in the BIOS to make sure that all drives but the hard drive are set to NONE and the system looks to the hard drive to boot first.  The server sure does look sleek with no drives!
