Hi,
I apologise in advance if this has been solved before but I didn't find anything relating to my situation.
I am a beginner as far as servers are concerned. I want to create a domain and control it so users on the domain can access other computers on the domain only by using a password.
I have used linux for several years, mostly PCLinuxOS and Linux Mint, and am familiar with the basic linux terminology as well as the basic use of a non gui interface.
I have installed SME 8.1 and was able to get everything going. I am connected to the internet and gave it an ip address. I can access SME from other machines via a browser. I am able to add users.
I used the registry hacks which came with SME 8.1 for XP and Win7.
I tried to follow the wiki to get connected to my domain cango.local. Every time I tried I am not able to do so getting the standard error message from the windows machine:
A domain controller for cango.local could not be contacted.
I tried this on 2 different locations, once having SME in a virtual setup and now having it on a physical machine.
I am obviously missing something essential but I can not figure out what.
Help will be highly appreciated.
Regards

did you use the domain or the workgoup name? use the latter
-
and make sure SME is the DNS server for the clients

My word - I never would have guessed that. Thank you!
I now get an "access denied" message.
and make sure SME is the DNS server for the clients
not sure how to do that.

EDIT:
It says: Workgroup and domain controller: Yes
Roaming Profiles: No

Moving on I can connect as admin but not as any of the users. What am I doing wrong?

To be sure: in Server Manager all users are "active" = did you create a password for each user ?
