Title: CrashPlan on SME Server 7.5.1

Forgive me for my SME Server ignorance as I am a Windows guy, but I was wondering if anyone could help me obtain some information for a business using SME Server 7.5.1 on a Dell server?

They have a "CrashPlan" account, which is an online backup service.  CrashPlan said they are not familiar with SME Server, and offered system requirements and said they do not support anything without a GUI.

Can someone confirm if CrashPlan would work on SME Server 7.5.1?  If so, can you tell me the process of doing so?

This is what "CrashPlan" gave me for configuring a "headless client":   headless client, but we do not support it: http://support.code4…/Configuring_A_Headless_Client

I don't have any experience with CrashPlan, so I can't directly help you there.  However, SME Server 7.x has been EOL for over a year (see http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,49748.0.html), so an upgrade to 8.1 would be advisable.

Second, unfortunately the URL you posted got truncated.  It looks like this is the one you meant:

Beyond that, the only system requirements that crashplan post for their product under Linux are the kernel version (>= 2.6.13) and the glibc version (>= 2.4).  To verify if the system meets those requirements, log in to the server (either at the console or using ssh) and run these commands:

$ rpm -q kernel
$ rpm -q glibc

A google search for "crashplan centos 5" gave me this step-by-step headless install post, which looks pretty simple to follow:

On SME server, install the 'runlevel init links' into /etc/rc7.d

I'd recommend trying it on a spare server first...

I strongly suggest OP to plan a migration to SME 8.1 asap and then try crashplan
