Title: New hard drive
Post by: ElFroggio on June 26, 2014, 11:55:20 PM
Hi,

I'm running an SME 8.1 and I want to replace the hard-drive with a much larger one. Next week will be a good time since a few people will on vacation.

I'm looking for what to backup/restore for the users/groups/pseudonyms... and all the various settings.

I have searched for "usb backup install" and have not found instructions.

Thanks

Syv

Hi,

the normal SME backup procedure will work.
1. Make a SME Backup
2. Replace old HD with new HD
3. Install SME 8.1
4. Restore backup

Maybe you also want to have a complete copy of your HD before replacing it. Then ....

ADD the new HD to your existing server by reading this:

Have fun

ElFroggio, do you already have mirrored drives in your server?  If so, then the process is easy and Fumetto's link will do the trick.  If not, RequestedDeletion's procedure will do.  You can run the backup using the server-manager backup function, either to an attached USB hard drive or over the network.

Note that, as I understand it, SME Server won't boot from a drive larger than 2 TB.
