After server upgrade from SME 7.5 to 8.0 in the process PINE vanished.
Why it was working in SME 7.5 but there was not considered effort for such e-mail software as pine in SME 8.0 version?
It is not included in installable software list.
unfortunately that pine which is included in older SME release does not install properly (not solved dependencies).
Any instructions how to get pine installed and in working order for SME 8.0 too?

PINE is no longer being developed. There are some RPM's available on RepoForge for EL5 that are very old but might work...

You can also try ALPINE as a replacement. ALPINE is newer development and also available from RepoForge...

well, I know that. But installation instructions please?
have you tried to install on 8.0? ;-)
fact is that in SME server that pine worked fine, but not in SME server 8.0.
I tried,
pineinstall]# rpm -iv pine-4.64-3.el4.rf.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
liblber-2.2.so.7 is needed by pine-4.64-3.el4.rf.i386
libldap-2.2.so.7 is needed by pine-4.64-3.el4.rf.i386
pineinstall]# rpm -iv pine-4.64-1.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libldap.so.2 is needed by pine-4.64-1.i386
And where from to get those?
Besides, LDAP is already in E-smith 8.0 ....???
RPMS]# rpm -iv alpine-2.02-2.el4.rf.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
liblber-2.2.so.7 is needed by alpine-2.02-2.el4.rf.i386
libldap-2.2.so.7 is needed by alpine-2.02-2.el4.rf.i386
libtcl8.4.so is needed by alpine-2.02-2.el4.rf.i386

Pine is obsolete and will not install so you will have to install Alpine instead. You will need to use Yum to install it.
Download Alpine then run...
yum localinstall alpine-2.02-2.el5.rf.i386.rpm
This will pull in one required dependency and allow you to install Alpine.
-
~]# yum localinstall alpine-2.02-2.el5.rf.i386.rpm
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, protect-packages, smeserver
Setting up Local Package Process
Cannot open file: alpine-2.02-2.el5.rf.i386.rpm. Skipping.
Nothing to do
...ee?.... where did I went wrong?
[edit] ... I just did not noticed to DOWNLOAD the package first becouse terrible temperatures out here (27..31 degrees celsius here). After this download all works right. THANK YOU. :)
