Title: restore from sme.tgz copied with ssh to new server? anyone done that?
Post by: hanscees on August 24, 2014, 10:24:54 PM
Hi,

as with every upgrade I am struggling with restoring from the backup I made to the desktop. I have but a small server in vmware abd dont use backups every day, just vmware snapshots.

To restore I am supposed to use a usb-disk, but being stubborn as I am I want to scp the sme.tgz to the new sme9 server and restore from that.

Is there a way, or should I really use a usb-stick?

Being stubborn as you are (your words), please make the effort to look at the available Howtos.
See Backup server config which has a section exactly on your query.

Please follow all the steps or your data will not restore correctly.

Wonderful!! Thank you.

at this url:
http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_server_config#Command_line_manual_Restore_from_USB_drive_or_memory_stick

it says:

cd /
signal-event pre-restore
tar -C / -xzvf smeserver.tgz
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot

Et voila!

Hi,

My compliments for making sme9.

I made a backup from my sme8.1, installed sme9, extract the backup and am now running sme9!

Excellent!
