I use SME Server 8.1, last updated mid July.
For years, I use thunderbird as email client with imap configuration.
Back from vacation, I can't send email with thunderbird. I get an error message (in French):
L'envoi du message a échoué.
Le message n'a pas pu être envoyé en utilisant le serveur SMTP « serveur.grenoble.sibert.fr » pour une raison inconnue. Veuillez vérifier que les paramètres de votre serveur SMTP sont corrects et essayez à nouveau ou contactez votre administrateur réseau.
SMTP settings are:
- Description : serveur
- Server name : serveur.machin.truc.fr
- Port : 465
- User name : my_account
- authentication method : normal password
- Connexion security : SSL/TLS
The only new thing is that I updated Thunderbird and now it is version 31.0. I'm not sure what was the previous version as I was using esr channel not so long time ago.
I can send email with webmail.

As you can send email with webmail, then there is unlikely to be any sme server problem.
I would be very carefully checking the Thunderbird settings, something has changed or there is a bug in Thunderbird.
Have you tried a different email client ?

Your certificate is changed and maybe you missed the request To accept the new one

So, I have looked at certificates. I found my server certificate under avast! Mail Scanner. I asked avast to not check outgoing emails. Then thunderbird asked me to validate my server certificate. The email was sent (and received). I turned avast back to scan outgoing mails. Cannot send email.
May be, the problem is with Avast, not thunderbird. :?

if so, you should search on avast's site for a solution :-)

Just a guess or hunch, maybe reinstall Avast, ie after the upgrade of Thunderbird.

Right now, I asked Avast not to scan SSL emails and I trust sme-server :D
Maybe I have to reinstall Avast or find a way to reset parameters.
