Title: external webmail not working (and I am experienced!)
Post by: srd on September 11, 2014, 02:17:39 PM
Hi

New to SME Server but over 15 years in the linux and networking world.

All seems to be operating fine EXCEPT external webmail which just times out. Internal network is working fine on 443.

I can also access my standard primary website externally on port 80.

The server is in 'server only mode'.

Webmail access is set to 'allow https (secure)'

I've port forwarded my router on 443 to the server. IMAP and SMTP work (993 and 465) externally.

Really scratching my head on this - any thoughts appreciated!

That's most liekly either your ISP or your router which is blocking port 443

if so you should know that log's digging (/var/log/) and other tools like netstat are your best friends :-)

timeout, as Daniel pointed out, means that something is blocking tcp traffic on port 443

Go to
grc.com
& do a scan on your system to see what ports are really open.
