Hi,
I'm logged as admin and from the menu 8. backup, sme 8 doesn't find the usb device, but it's there:
df -h
/dev/sdb1 587G 178G 380G 32% /media/usbdisk (This is a 640Gb USB external harddrive)
mount:
/dev/sdb1 on /media/usbdisk type ext3 (rw,nosuid,nodev,_netdev)
If I put a USB stick, SME finds it, but my largest stick is only 8gb so the backup crashes. I need about 90Gb.
I want to do an upgrade to SME 9. Any suggestion on how to backup to the external USB hard drive?
Thanks
Syv

I have searched and not found. I have read that USBDisk page and I do not see or understand and it relates to the workstation backup.
Thanks

Which are you trying to do? Your subject mentions backup from console, but your last post mentions workstation backup. They are two different, and incompatible, things.

I'm want to upgrade from 8.1 to 9. On 8.1, logon admin, menu item 8. Perform backup to removable media so I can do the restore druring the sme 9 install. and it doesn't find the media but:
/dev/sdb1 587G 178G 380G 32% /media/usbdisk (<==This is a 640Gb USB external harddrive)
/dev/sdb1 on /media/usbdisk type ext3 (rw,nosuid,nodev,_netdev)
Thanks

Then you're not doing the workstation backup. Again, these are two unrelated things, and thus should not be confused.
When I upgraded from 8.1 to 9, I tried backing up to a USB disk (I don't recall if I used the console backup or the workstation backup--maybe both), but wasn't able to make it work. I didn't mess with it much, though; I just backed it up over the network using the workstation backup available through the server-manager. That worked well for me, though probably not as cleanly as if I'd been able to do the console backup to the USB disk.
I do remember seeing a requirement that the backup disk be available but not mounted--I'm not sure that's correct, but should be easy enough to test.

Perfecto!
I just unmounted it and now it's doing the console backup.
Thanks
