Title: setting up 2 raid arrays on SME 9
Post by: Blacksmith on October 02, 2014, 03:36:51 AM
I have only used an old Mitel version of SME and would like to upgrade to SME9 using two HD's as raid 1 to boot and run the server and four larger disks as a raid 5 array mounted under "home" or "files" to carry all the data is this possible and if so what are the steps ...any help would be appreciated. :-

Hi and welcome.

An in place upgrade from x to SME 9 is not possible.

If you have data that you would like to preserve, you have to create a backup and restore it on a fresh installed SME 9.

By default SME8 and 9 will recognize your 2 HD's and will automatically create a raid1 configuration. But leave out any other disks at installation time, just the 2 boot disks that will hold the OS.

If you say RAID5 array do you mean RAID5 provided by SME Server or a RAID5 JBOD / NAS networked/mounted on an SME Server?

This will get you started http://wiki.contribs.org/AddExtraHardDisk

Thanks for your reply.
This would be a new server setup using SME9 I wish to boot off two SAS disks in a raid1 setup through SME and then add four more SATA disks set up as raid5 using SME, if that is possible. My intention is to run SME9 on the raid1 and then mount the raid5 under home to store all the information bays and work data
