Title: Mac file access issue on shared ibay
Post by: Dboy59 on October 16, 2014, 06:59:34 AM
Firstly Greetings to you all  8) Nice to be here.

I am needing some insights from the wise ones

We are running SME 8.1

I have an issue with 3 Mac machines accessing shared files on our ibay.

The 2 newer ones have OSX LION 10.7.5 and OSX 10.9.4 and an older one which is running OSX 10.6.8 which logon using SME user /pass

They can all create folders and files and yet a quarter of time lose ability to change move or have the other Macs access their files and folders.

It seems as though the authentication is dropping off in an intermittent fashion

Also the older Mac has no problem searching on these ibays using Spotlight yet the newer 2 cannot.

I would appreciate any thoughts you might have as to why this is happening.

Cheers  :-)

IIRC it's a mac issue..
I read something about it somewhere but can't remember when/where..

I suggest you to search on mac/apple related forums/sites.. and report here, thank you

Well it seems this problem has to do with Mac OsX Samba 2.

We applied this terminal command to reduce Mac machines to downgrade to Samba 1.1 which has fixed things but does not always access quickly.

If it doesn’t work there is an undo as well

This one is same as previous fix but has some other info

On Mavericks this is a possible solution but not tried yet.

However it seems that Yosemite is touted as being more Samba friendly running Samba 3 which should work very well with SME 9 which also runs Samba 3.

This software called Dave is quite likely a better option but costs of course

There is a trial version goes 3-4 weeks

There is a legacy version for 10.6 as well

Hope this helps anyone else  :-)
