I currently test my SMEs on a proxmox lab-server. In this document:
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/SMEServer_KVM
maybe written by "one of us", in some way you are encouraged to install SME without LVM support to avoid fs corruptions.
Personally sometimes i took care of it and sometimes not; eventually I did not experience any issue with LVM installed.
Any opinion about this ? Was something related to the beta5-stage (2010) of SME 8 ?

While using LVM in a VM might not be needed, there's no known issue with it either. I run tons of virtual SME Server, both with and without LVM, and have encountered no issue
