Title: DAR2 and SMBFS
Post by: billdwm on June 12, 2015, 05:51:16 PM
I'm using SME-Server v9 and have installed DAR2. I've successfully used DAR2 previously in v7. I'm trying to back up to Windows workstations. Get message saying SMFS is an unrecognised file system. I've seen comments that say SMBFS has been superceeded by CIFS, DAR2 instructions state that when trying to access using CIFS you must specify an IP address for the target. As I'm backing up to workstations with dynamic IP addressing this is obviously impractical.

Is there a solution or is backing up to Windows workstations using DHCP no longer feasible?

Well I must apologise to host this contrib on my repository, it is really old, and quite not maintained since long years.....so maybe you are the first to test it, thank you :)

* Concerning the dhcp IP of windows hosts, can you set an IP on the mac address of the NIC ???
* Does the official backup software of sme is not enough or not functional ?

Haven't yet tried the NIC IP option but I have looked at the Backup Panel and I have some questions -

Disk Usage tells me that there are 3 file systems -
/dev/mapper/main-root  occupying 174Gb on the HDD
tmpfs occupying oGb
/dev/mdo occupying 239Mb
plus
Ibays occupying 161Gb
User data occupying 11-12Gb

When I look at the Backup panel it tells me that -
a tape B/U would copy everything on the HDD and that currently I have 191Gb of data
a workstation b/u would copy configuration and data files and that I currently have 39Gb of data

Can someone explain the discrepancy between Disk Usage saying I'm using 174Gb and Backup saying my total usage is 191Gb
Also discrepancy between tape b/u saying I have 191Gb of data and workstation b/u saying I have only 39Gb
