Title: Tape backup still fails
Post by: Neil Hart on August 21, 2002, 09:57:32 PM
Hello

There is a know bug detailed in e-smith.org/bugs, namely...

Tape backups fail, with the error
dev/nst0: No such device or address

The workaround is to load the ide-scsi module, thus...
    #  modprobe ide-scsi

However, it still doesn't work :o(

This happened after an upgrade from 5.1.2 to 5.5.  The tape backup was working perfectly before.

Is anyone else still having trouble with this, or is there something I haven't done?

Regards

Neil

Assuming you have a scsi controller installed and an ide tbu, try this HowTo:

Thanks for the reply Darrell.

No, I don't have any SCSI controllers on-board.  The tape backup units are IDE.

This problem occurs with a new installation of SME 5.5, as well as an upgrade from 5.1.2.

The upgraded server's backups were working perfectly before the upgrade.  The new installation, used to use NT.

What else could I try?
