Dear all, i installed sme server on VMware 10. I have configure VMware to go internet through NAT. How to configure sme server in vmware to access internet through this NAT connection. I have tried twice/thrice no progress. Please help me to configure this....

i don't know at all concerning vmware, but I do know about bridge and virtualisation, it is the solution you need to put in place rather than NAT.
With a bridge solution, your smeserver gets a real IP on your network and what is genius, is that you have nothing to do on your smeserver, except to set the IP in the good range of your network with your real gateway.

Ok. How to do that. What is real gateway. I am in nowhere. Tell me hiw to configure. Which command should i type to configure this. ?thanks

On debian with virtualbox I install bridge-utils and i set the virtual nic of my vm to use a bridged network on my real nic.
All is done in the settings of virtualbox.
As i said i don't know about wmvare. It is not enought free ;)

Thanks very much stephdl for you support. but it doesn't worked for me. I think i need server configuration from the begining. then it will solve the problem. How to linux server configure to connect to internet. i already setup it as NAT, but it didn't work. I think I make something wrong in the server configure point. i want you to explain me to specify inserting ip addresses accordingly. thanks.

well first you need to explain how works
your network (which range of ip, your gateway, your subnet)
what is the os which handle vmware (on your host supervisor)
after that you will set the IPs settings in the console of smeserver like you could do with a real computer, it is the magic of bridged network in virtualisation, whatever the virtualisation platform chosen you will find the same principles.
I would suggest that you first play with smeserver in a real environment first, then you can envisage to try the virtual environment....of course I have no idea of your skill with linux or sme, sorry for my impertinence.

Dear stephdl, yes you told me a clue. THE REAL NETWORKING. I configure it with my routers ip address as dns of linux. it worked. now i can access internet. thanks for the help. this is what i want to do with my linux server. now my windows 7 client (which is in VMware) also can connect internet through linux server. sorry for my minus knowledge of linux.

You should have installed SME Server 9.0. SME Server 8.x is in maintenance mode only.

Good morning guys. Ad i have implemented this linux server in vmware i want to connect windows clients to this linux domain. But when try to connect, it says no such a domain found. How to connect to this linux domain. Thanks

If linux host, in a terminal could you do and report here:
ip addr list
ifconfig
test -n $(which brctl) && brctl show
test -n $(which ovs-vsctl) && ovs-vsctl show

dear stephdl, I read your link and download a windows hotfix to connect to domain. now i am in linux domain. thanks for the information. My next goal is openvpn configuration. I will contact all of you buddies if i need any help. good luck all the guys.
