guys please i need your help
using sme 9 64bit
i have a main headoffice building with 100 users
i have a domain = domain.com
i have a catchall account for the domain = catchall@domain.com
i collect mail from the catchall@domain.com account via the sme 9 server without any problems
i have 100 mailboxes on the sme 9 server including aliases etc. this all works perfectly for the main head office
i have 20 outlying buildings ( same company ) with another 70 users that require mail
i have created 70 mailboxes on the control panel of the company website for the outlying users ( no catchall )
all the 70 outlying users can send mail to all users for the company domain.com without any problems
all the 70 outlying users can send mail to any clients for the company domain.com without any problems
my problem is the following
all the 70 outlying users DO NOT RECEIVE any mail from the head office users ie. when any or all 100 users at the main office sends mail to any of the 70 outlying users the mail to the 70 outlying users do not get delivered.
what do i need to do on the sme 9 server to be able to deliver mail from the main head office to the outlying 70 users mailboxes that has been created on the control panel of the website for domain.com
hope this makes sense
any help greatly appreciated :-)

Can you include a bounce message example or error mail example that one of the 100 get's when sending to one of the 70?
-
Sounds like the 70 users are using Office365?
-
Anyone on the central (100 user) SMEServer sending to an outlying account on the "home" domain, the central SMEserver is going to assume that the account is local to itself and bounce it if the account does not exist.
<one solution - not very elegant>
You need to create those 70 accounts on the central server, then put a forward in for each of those account to send to an equivalent email on a secondary domain which is also monitored by the outlying systems.
Others might have a more elegant solution?

Bud
Would giving those 70 external users access to an IMAP mail account on the main server be the answer ?

good day people
thank you for your suggestions i do appreciate it
janet can you elaborate?
are you saying that is still create an additional 70 mailboxes on the sme 9 server and then use outlook client for the remote users with imap option setting for mail retrieval from the sme 9 server?

that is a better solution than mine...

Yes, create the 70 users which automatically creates the mailboxes, then enable external access to IMAPS (secure on port 993) in server manager Email panel, configure external mail clients accordingly

good day people
can i not change the Hostname and addresses " mail.domain.com " to send mail to the external remote ip ie: " Hostnames and Addresses > mail.domain.com > Remote > remote ip "
then in the user account forward all mail to " mail.domain.com " which in turn should send mail to the external domain and then all mail from the main office users will also be delivered to the external mailboxes
hope this makes sense
thank you for your support :-)

Bud
can i ..... change the Hostname and addresses " mail.domain.com " to send mail to the external remote ip ie: " Hostnames and Addresses > mail.domain.com > Remote > remote ip "
I think that will cause all mail on the main server to be processed by the mail server on the remote server, I think that is NOT what you want.
then in the user account forward all mail to " mail.domain.com " which in turn should send mail to the external domain and then all mail from the main office users will also be delivered to the external mailboxes
You cannot forward to mail.domain.com, you need to forward user mail to a valid email address eg user@mail.domain.com
Also NOT what you want, I think.

thank you for helping janet and everyone
ok so all email accounts have been created on the sme 9 server
dyndns account created and working
external users using outlook can send mail via the adsl service providers smtp settings and also receive mail via sme 9 server from the head office users.
message from client " there must be a technical reason why some people are receiving the internal newsletter while others are not (even though the ‘delivery’ report indicates that we are all receiving it)? "
how do i check and where do i check to see if all the users have received the company newsletter and whom has not?
how do i check and where do i check to see if the company letterhead is not flagged as " spam " for some users?
the client is complaining that some mail messages are duplicated. why and how do i stop some mail messages from being duplicated in the users mailboxes?
any help greatly appreciated :-)

I think it's time to take a look at the DNS settings for your domain(s), all records...
-
guys please hlelp
i am getting complaints from users due to duplicate email messages
i have installed the mailsorting contrib to delete duplicate emails yet some users are still getting duplicates
i suspect that it has to do with their outlook client timeout thus i need to change the time allocated to outlook for retrieving the mail
anything else i need to look for?
any help greatly appreciated
-
yes.. the headers of the same email, when doubled
-
I also have some users complaining about duplicate emails.. could it be because they use outlook 2000 with long timeout?
what is the recommended timeout for a lan connection?
-
the only suggestion I could give you is to get rid of external accounts and setup your SME as primary email server..
nowadays, the reasons not to act so are almost negligible.. :-)
