Hi
I'm looking for a way to upgrade my running sme-server 7.6 to the latest 9.x release.!
I would prefer to get a new harddisk, bigger than the build in 500GB, and connect them to a free sata port to copy all to the new disk.
The system is serving files via samba and is the primary domaincontroller with 30 user. Thats why i not simply copy all data to the new disk and
install from the beginning.!
So my question is: Whats the offizially way to move a system to new bigger disk and do an upgrade at the same time..? I any...;)

To upgrade to SME 9, you'll need to backup, install SME 9, and restore--there's no way to upgrade in place. That's the bad news. The good news is, that takes care of the hard drive upgrade as well.

Hello,
All is here :

Good night.

... and that will also backup the account and domain settings. So i don't have to join all machines to the server again...??!

sure.. all the needed files to do a disaster recovery are stored into backup, meaning every kind of backup you execute on SME using default backup features (via console -> smeserver.tgz on an external disk or via web panel -> dar files)
in the first case you must use the "restore" function you will asked during first configuration, in the second you must configure the server (using the same hostname/domain), configure backup and then do a restore..
you'll find every needed info in the wiki
