SME 10 alpha1 is available and the team is working slowly but surely to an alpha 2 with already some improvements.
you can find https://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server_wishlist#SME_Server_10.X here (https://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server_wishlist#SME_Server_10.X here) a wiki page with a list of wish for SME 10 and for the future.
You can try you chance and add some ideas if you have any. Also if you can help in making it happen in any way, just pop in on devlist or here.
