Title: Mail authentication using IMAP

Is there any way to use the full mail address to authenticate using IMAP to the sme server?
e.g. Instead of using "user" to access the user@smedomain.it mailbox I want to use "user@smedomain.it" to authenticate

no, unfortunately no, there's no option to do so..

BTW, please explain us your issue with standard auth based on username..
finally.. if you prefer italian, come to italian language forum too..

I have a third part mail client that refuse to do imap authentication without using a mail address as username. :-(

Sure! It's an application from Qnap. They use QmailAgent to sync a mailbox to their NAS.
I wanted to use it to keep a copy of my mail on a NAS.

I'll try to ask also on Qnap Forum.

finally I found howto authenticate users on imap using full email address, but unfortunately it works only on SME9 and works only using real users, not alias..

that said, this is another reason to start scheduling the upgrade to 9.X :-)
