Title: Migrating 9.1 From 32 bit to new 64 bit machine
Post by: ricks1950 on November 29, 2016, 10:13:05 PM
I see the recommended procedure is to use Affa.  This particular machine does not have much data on it, 3-4 GB.  I was wondering if I could restore from a nightly backup from the old machine, swipe one of the NICS from the old machine, run hardware config and go?  If I restore the machine using Affa, I will still have to swap over a NIC (or buy a new one) and reconfigure the hardware before swapping, will I not?

Advice please.  I know this is a bit of a dumb question, please don't let the flames get too hot  :-P

Please use the recommended default backup and restore procedure and re-install any contribs on the new machine.

Still wondering what the answer to my question is.  Can I use a USB backup or do I have to use Affa?  Will a backup from a different hardware configuration do nasty things to the new PC?  Both are "recommended" backup and restore procedures :-P

backup doesn't know anything about CPU arch

use the standard backup and restore procedure
