Title: Forum software on SME 8/9
Post by: dave simmons on February 08, 2017, 02:21:52 PM
Hi,

Looking for suggestions/advice/experience on choosing/installing/maintaining forum software on SME.

We're currently running SME 8 with all updates/no contribs.

The aim is to create a small closed, non-commercial forum/discussion group (max. 200 members).

I see that there is a PHPBB contrib, but the documentation suggests it is for SME7.  Can this be installed on later versions?  Does it open up any additional risks?

Can I install other forum software?

I would like to run it on our existing SME server if possible, but I don't want to risk making the system more vulnerable (I don't have linux security experience).  SME is great for us in this respect :)

If necessary I can install SME on a second machine for this.

Grateful to hear any suggestions/experience.
