Good Day good people
I ran the 9.1 to 9.2 upgrade,
When ever i try any commands i get segmentation error,
I cant login to my server-manager
I cant login into the admin account remotely
i can login to the root account local and remote - console gives segmentation error
My web services are working
i can assess exsisting mail, but it will not send or recieve
i cant run yum update, Fails to find any servers, i can ping external ip address's but it will not ping a web address
signal-event post-upgrade gives segmentation error
on boot up there are no visable errors,
i cant access any log files - segmentation error
i have booted off dvd and run the memory test no errors
i have booted off the DVD and done a repair install no change
i have taken the hard drive out and instlled in another motherboard , cpu and ram still the same errors.
the only thing this servers runs is email and front accounting, if my memory servers me correct i think the only contribs are Sarg, DHCP manager, webfiltering,
Any advice would be very welcome.
thanks John

Do you have space left on the hard drive, what does
df -h
show ?
-
thanks for the reply
[root@hawkgateway ~]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/main-root
909G 44G 819G 6% /
tmpfs 3.8G 0 3.8G 0% /dev/shm
/dev/md0 239M 77M 150M 34% /boot
[root@hawkgateway ~]#
Plenty of space, i did check that with a check on the hard drive and no errors

Have you done a full diagnostic test on the hard drives eg manufacturers hard disk test and/or see
https://wiki.contribs.org/Monitor_Disk_Health

A search in these forums on segmentation fault gives quite few finds & clues.
Sarg is a contrib that can be problematic, try uninstalling it.
Charlie Brady has posted that these sort of errors are usually one of
memory (RAM)
hard disk problems
software problems

Agree, segmentation errors can be seen as a 'Master Alarm'.
-
I'd guess either faulty hardware (RAM or HDD mainly), or interrupted yum transaction (during the upgrade of an essential lib). In any case, a reinstall + restore is recommended (but you need to be sure your hardware is OK before doing so)

hi janet
yes i ran monitor disk health and found no errors
i suspected ram and hdd erros that is why i ran the tests i even tried other hardware except the hdd

yes segmentation is a master alarm, have read up quite a lot about it, but still in the dark
Daniel B, reinstall + restore is the way to go, but my backups also stopped working, so that will be a final and absolute last chance , i cant get in to the server-manager to activate a backup, if i could get in i would setup a backup and do just that,
i do suspect that there was a problem with the upgrade interruption, thats why i downloaded the fully 9.2 tried a repair.
All contribs have been removed
we soldier on to try and find a solution,

hi janet

What have you run , and what was the result ? Also did you ran a full memcheck ?

If still accessible, your emergency would then be to backup /home/e-smith/files on anther HDD
i do suspect that there was a problem with the upgrade interruption, thats why i downloaded the fully 9.2 tried a repair.
Why do you suspect that ? Did you have any issue during upgrade ?
