Hi Ive got a church site with SME 9.0 installed. Have danguardian loaded for internet filtering. It has intermittant unstable internet speeds.
Ive established that the fault is with the TELCO company and they advised that they have resolved it.
I have remote ssh and server-manager access to the server. I dont always have access to do onsite broadband/ADSL speed tests.
Are there any scripts commands or contribs that I can run to test the internet speeds remotely?
I would like to monitor it for troubleshooting as needed.
Kind Regards :-P

try this one:
https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/install-speedtest-cli-on-centos-redhat-fedoa-scientific-to-measure-internetspeed/
to start, ignore the python install part and try..
be aware that playing with python can break your server
let us know, thank you

I found a speedtest.net cli utility like this
https://github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli
You can ssh in and run it to get a rough idea of speed.

You can tell him to pray for the connection to remain stable. Normally churchmen believe that praying is the solution to all problems (or almost)...

Didnt find any humour in your comments Fumento!, its a church where my friend worships and its my privilege to help him. Maybe I should be prayerful of you. Prayer does work, it teaches me that my will is not the most important thing.

I'm sorry if my comment has hit your sensitivity. It was not my intention to offend anything. I come from a deeply religious family and this has led me (for better or for worse) to see with a very critical eye what religion generally teaches.
Unfortunately (in my opinion) in many religions "history" is always the one that in the end everything can be solved by praying to God and asking for forgiveness for one's own sins or by acting in such a way as to "forgive" one's sins. If it can be true that praying or believing in a god can help one's "I", it is equally true (always in my opinion) that often the only help that prayer can give is simply on the "philosophical" level ... and in my country there is a saying that states that "philosophy is that thing with which and for which one always remains as such".
I apologize if I've offended you somehow, it was not my intention.
peace and love :)

Thank You for replying Fumento. I accept your comments and take to heart what you mean. :-P
I'm a Christian and was saved when I was 17. I understand many things in society is called religious or Gods will but is far from the truth- The Bible.
Prayer likewise is often promoted for what it is not. True prayer is that which is in accord to will of God and not to personal, social or political desires. I agree with you that with all the stuff out there it can be confusing to know whats true and whats false.
But if you allow me I can explain what the truth is and How to come to a living and saving faith, it is to believe that we are sinners and need a Savior to forgive us of our sins. Jesus took our place and died for what our sins deserve. We need to repent from our sins and beleive in Christ Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins before God.
Our problem is the breach of our sins before a holy and just God- we cant save ourselves nor be good enough. We are lost in our sins and if we are honest we like our sins.
There is hope in Jesus, he saved me a wretched sinner, surely He can save and transform anyone's heart. That's the victory in Jesus, not me or any human philosophy. My aim is to tell others about this glorious gospel.
Well ive propbabnly breached the parameters of the forum subject matter, but its a worthy discussion and directly determines our eternal destiny.
Thanks for the opportunity, would be more than happy to talk further. Drop me a message by email if you would like to talk more about the matter...
