My fresh installation of SME Server 9.2 all of a sudden won't boot.
It stalls after Grub. The screen clears and the cursors just sits in the upper left corner blinking.
I had booted it several times after I did a yum update, so it is not the first boot after a kernel update.
I did the only thing I could think of: I tried to re-install Grub using the rescue procedure described on the wiki.
That didn't help.
I haven't changed any hardware. The last thing I did before the reboot to blank screen was to install the contrib smeserver-remoteuseraccess. That can not possibly the reason it won't boot.
I'm at a loss. What can I do to diagnose the problem?
EDIT: No wait. It is the kernel somehow. It boots with 2.6.32-696, but not with 2.6.32-754.
I would still swear to that it booted on 2.6.32-754 a couple of times, but that cannot be true. I must be confused.
This puts me in another predicament instead. Then I can't run SME Server on this server.

Please advise about your server hardware specs, in detail.
Have you checked compatibility lists to see if it is compatible.
You could also try installing the base version of CentOS only (that SME server uses) to see if that installs & runs OK.
The Wiki indicates it is CentOS 6.9.

It's a Lenovo System x3250 M6, CPU Family 6 model 158.
I'll have to dig deeper for more details.
Where do I find the hardware compatibility list (I guess for CentOS 6 or 6.9)?

Google for
CentOS 6.9 hcl
or for
Lenovo System x3250 M6
The spec sheet here
https://lenovopress.com/lp0096.pdf
says:
Operating systems Microsoft Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, and 2016; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (x64) and 7,SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x64) and 12, VMware vSphere (ESXi) 5.5, 6.0, and 6.
As Red Hat 6 is OK then CentOS 6.x should be OK.
You may need to look at turning off wiz bang features in the BIOS eg RAID, display settings & so on.

I just reinstalled.
Did a yum update.
It is now back to booting just fine on kernel 2.26.32-754
I'm none the wiser.
