Title: Which SME version to use ?

HI Guys

So SME v9 is EOL soon, and V10 is not ready for production, which should we use for a new site keen to use this product?

Me, I would go with sme9, sme10 is in heavy development, multiple daily updates, being readied for beta, current iso is a long way off what will be beta1, easy to use sme9 short term, as long as its not going to have lots of customization done to it, when ready backup and restore to new install of sme10 when it gets here, when?  hang on wheres that peice of string :-) not long :-) ball park, less than say 3 weeks (I hope)

Someone else may drop in now and may be a little pessimistic, me I just see sunshine :-)

If you know what you are doing and comfortable with Linux/SME then you can use v10.

Just be careful with updates and follow bugs etc carefully so you don't get caught out with any surprises.

It will not have all the bells and whistles that v9 has, but it is the future.

What are the implications of continuing to use V9 ?
The only feature I am keen on is smb. We have been using SME for only this purpose, I then rsync the data from these ibays twice a day to another machine. I am hoping v10 can is solid on the smb side.

CentOS 6 which it is based on goes EOL on the 30th November.... so no more support or fixes from upstream.

It should be, with newer versions of SMB so you shouldn't get as many Windows 10 issues. They are trying to get rid of SMB v1 entirely.

If you use network browsing instead of mapping shares then you probably ought to look at the wsdd contrib for v10 which should restore the network browsing functionality.

(FWIW I use unison to do all my sync stuff - it is fundamentally rsync with some fun bits)
