I need a BB/forum for my website-I see that this site uses phorum. Does anyone have recommendations on a good noob installed forum?

I like phpBB; take a look at my contributed howto for information on how to set it up.

Theo, I've written a BBS specifically for SME server (I'm running SME 5.0 at home) in PHP/MSQL

It's still in beta, but I'm using it on my site. Check it out at http://thegeekhouse.com. If you like it, maybe we can figure out how to get it installed on your site.

Dan-thanks for the Freakin help! It was virtually without a hitch. I had to DL the bb elsewhere as the wget address didn’t provide a valid file. It provided one about 11k on two attempts that wasnt a valid gz file. Other than that, (and I was very careful to follow your instructions and not mis spell or mis-case anything) it was perfect! If you need to elaborate anything it might be the very end-where you enter in the info in the php install window, just reassure the noobs what names and pw goes where. Anyone else interested in putting a forum on their site, check this out under 'web discussion forums'

Hmmm... I did something wrong, but went over everything again and again. I get a 403 Forbidden error when accessing http://myserver/phpBB2
The only thing I did differently was use a different password.

I should be more specific. I followed the instructions for phpBB2 at http://www.e-smith.org/cgi-bin/contrib.cgiTheo wrote:

That's getting pretty long in the tooth now.  The latest version 2.0.2 is much easier to install and sets real easily.  Fast too.

James, actually, the HOWTO is for 2.0.2, it's just that the title in the contrib list hasn't been changed yet.
