Post by: wifipilot on August 16, 2022, 12:53:42 AM
guys please can you help me

i have been tasked to upgrade from SME Server 9.1 to SME Server 10.x

i will be rebuilding a new server

my question is that i have 20+ Users that require Both Google Workspace AND MS Office 365 Services

Can i still use the SME Server as my Primary Email Server?

i am currently using a Catchall from a Domain to get All Email on the SME Server

any help greatly appreciated

keep doing the same way you are on SME 9.
except you will move from a 2 years deprecated and unsupported OS to one still supported

Jean-Philippe Pialasse thank you for reply

apologies, i need to understand How do I incorporate both O365 AND Google Workspace with the SME Server?

i need 20+ users to use the same email address for the SME Server, O365 AND Google Workspace.

is that at all possible, if so how do i do it?

i want to use the SME Server as the Primary mail server

any help greatly appreciated

first your requisite is not clear.

do you need all your users to use one shared email
or
do you need all your user have their own email and do not have to handle one email on sme, one at google and one at MS.

how do you handle this currently ?

Oooofff. Security? 2/MFA with G & M$?

In itself that is easy.

But trying to marry that with both Google & M$ might not be so simple.

Where is your domain hosted?

Why don't you just upgrade your server to v10 as is? If that works currently it's the easiest solution for now.

Then I'd be tempted to document what you really need, and then consider the best approach from the ground up.

Jean-Philippe Pialasse - thank you for your reply

first your requisite is not clear - Apologies

do you need all your users to use one shared email - YES, if not then maybe Sub Domains??

ReetP - thank you for your input
Oooofff. Security? 2/MFA with G & M$? - Exactly why i am scratching my head, not much hair left  :)

Where is your domain hosted? - Hetzner

Why don't you just upgrade your server to v10 as is? If that works currently it's the easiest solution for now - Busy Building a New SME Server. Will just Create all the Users, Groups, Aliases etc from scratch.

Then I'd be tempted to document what you really need, and then consider the best approach from the ground up - Any help from the SME Team will be very Helpful. Thank you

Thank you guys, much appreciated.

First thought is Google Work and O365 have their own logins and nothing really to do with SME. They are just for online document handling, correct?

Do users have individual logins to Google/Office or are you sharing one login between multiple users? If so I'd guess that as they enforce MFA you are going to have to pay for multiple users...... (you can see why they like it...!)

Don't they have individual email addresses?

Where is the shared email address/email currently hosted?

for the 2FA and retrieval of the shared mail box you might know we use fetchmail on SME for that and the 2FA is currently not available on our upstream Centos7 and is still on dev alpha for fetchmail last time i checked.

you might have more chance on the other way round for the moment with forward from the said ms or google box if 2FA is enforced.

anyway if you share the account the 2FA is useless as a lot of peolple will get the auth request or have access to the autonomous code generating app and this increase the chance of success for phishing to get the token after successful auth which easily defeat 2FA.

for the decision to start from scratch, you know we have a backup restore core function just so you do not loose your time
