Im upgrading a server to 10 but dont want to use affa to migrate so id like to do it manually.
Im wanting to reconfigure the server manually (ie settings) as this current one has been in use and upgraded from sme7 beta when i first strated with sme
So im looking to sync (ssh i presume) all the users, password, their files and their email.
Ibays i would like to manually copy over as we are bound to have years of useless stuff i no longer need.
Many Thanks

hi reetp thanks.
i saw that but thought it was only for new installs. id like get the new one up and running with vpn access etc then moving email then making it the domain controller.
but this didnt seem to do that?

Read it carefully and test.
See what it includes and excludes.
Don't try manually just copying users/passwords or you'll end up in a complete mess.
It will back up all relevant settings for you to restore, and you can then just copy across files & mails as required.
Just make sure you don't duplicate server IPs.

either migrate either don’t. half baked cake taste not good.
if you have load of data yes you can exclude those and rsync when the new system is up and older moved to another ip
and yes test the new system first on a test vm and test network. if happy go live

Its only about a TB but if your saying i cant do it bit by bit i wont. Ill imapsync users email and create accounts as needed
Thanks

thing is migrating half users or half service will create more issues. because you will have user messing up on both side.
you can migrate all your users and services without data and rsync later or even sshfs or nfs mount the data to the correct path pending data migration of the big bits. The lets say rsync users on night 1 and ibays on week end

If you don't migrate your users & settings properly in one go you'll be back here taking up loads more of our time trying to fix the mess you have created against best advice.
Quite frankly you should have done this a long time ago.
The script essentially makes a standard SME backup less emails & files making it much quicker to migrate your server.
You can sync those files over later at your leisure.
So please, do the right thing, do it once, do it now, and save everyone a lot of time.

Your right i should
However i didnt and whilst i dont do all the things i should I support this project.
I will do as im told, it is one of the major reasons im on SME.
I will also do my best not to bother you all so you can focus on other things.

We're just trying to give best advice.
It may not be what you want to hear, but it doesn't make it wrong.
