Title: SME 10.1 and HP Microserver Gen8
Post by: alanh on November 30, 2023, 04:36:29 AM
Hi,
I have been using sme server for a number of years, I have just come across an HP Microserver Gen8 and am wondering if I can install sme 10.1 on this - I've had a quick try but with no luck. It has 2 x 500gb disks and I try and install from a usb dvd drive which goes thru the install but when it boots it brings up Server 2008 which was previously on it.  I'd like to get it going with 2 x 4TB disks, but not looking good at this stage.
Thanks

I have a Gen8, have installed SME10 to a SSD in past but now have Proxmox and use VMs, however, mine was a used system when I got it, check the internal USB has not been populated with a Mem Stick and system is booting off that, mine had one and was setup to boot off that.

Secondly need to see what your BIOS settins are re HD, raid etc in the BIOS

Should add I also upgraded cpu to a non standard Xeon

It's a few year since I installed SME on a HPE Microserver Gen8 ... As I remember it, I had to first install an alternative BIOS. See https://forums.koozali.org/index.php?topic=52025.0
