Today I got this warning in red in the server-manager:
URGENT NOTICE: As per June 30th 2024, SME Server 10 is obsolete, and potentially INSECURE. NO support will be offered for any issue found with this installed version. Please migrate IMMEDIATELY to Koozali SME Server 11 or higher version. Failure to upgrade may lead to the compromise of this server.
Please, consult https://wiki.koozali.org/SME_Server:Download to get last available version.

I have been doing regular updates since - "view from the coalface"
Note there is NO ISO yet available for SME v11.
You have to manually install Rocky and then add the SME packages to test.
We think the first Alpha ISOs will be out in Autumn.
Note this is open source.
It is the responsibility of everyone to help and get involved, even if it is just to answer posts here.

Just was a bit frightened with the text appeared, rushed to search for updates, failed and now found this thread.
So, please, confirm my understanding:
1. SME11 is not ready for mass upgrade. The enthusiasts may test the beta version installed from scratch.
2. The "official" release is planned somewhere in autumn 2024.
And here comes the question - will it be ever the real upgrade 10->11 or will we need to install from scratch and do all local modification manually?

Just was a bit frightened with the text appeared, rushed to search for updates, failed and now found this thread.
It's why you as an admin should keep abreast of what is happening. You should be checking regularly on developments. This day has been coming for 10 years..... it should NOT be a surprise.
So, please, confirm my understanding:
1. SME11 is not ready for mass upgrade. The enthusiasts may test the beta version installed from scratch.
- There is no Koozali SME v11 yet.
- There is no Beta yet.
- There is no Alpha yet.
There is a method to install some SME test packages on Rocky. It is very manual and purely for testing only. There are still a lot more changes to come - mail, webmail etc have not been finished yet. So you do not get a working server. You get a partly working development server that you can test with.
Yes we want people to try it, but they need some guidance on what and how so we don't get lots of duplication. We know a lot of stuff is broken or going to be upgraded so there is no point in testing some sections until new packages are ready. We think some of that will be in the next month or two, time allowing.
2. The "official" release is planned somewhere in autumn 2024.
The best that we can say is we hope to try and get some form of pre-Alpha ISO out in the Autumn.
A lot of that will depend on how much help we get...................

If you read here you will see this has been answered many times before.
Koozali SME is based on Red Hat releases - originally RH, then CentOS and next Rocky. So we have to follow what they do.
Regrettably they there is no in-place upgrade.
That means backup and restore although there are some advanced techniques like Migrate Helper that may assist you.

As someone who may have more free time to contribute in the near future, how would I go about getting involved ? I just left the Volunteer page but it looked rather out-of-date and I could not find any way to actually volunteer (such a page might help to recruit more help !).
