Although entries are not yet open we want to hear from people interested in GSoC 2025.
Koozali SME Server is a perl based "easy to manage" server system. It was the first of it's kind, and is one of the oldest open source projects.
It would suit people interested in Linux system adminstration, Linux ISO building, perl including html/CSS, translation, automation systems etc.
We have lots of ideas for Koozali SME including the possibility of incorporating Generative AI !!
So do please express your interest with some background information below.
-
Some brief subjects that we would like to consider
- OAuth for mail services and server manager
- Multi Factor authentication in general
- Replace IPTables with Shorewall
- IPv6 capability
- AI integration
-
I tought that shorewall is discontinued, the lead developer has retired...nftables is probably the replacement of iptables
-
> Multi Factor authentication in general
IIRC pam can do a lot for this, otp for for ssh or vpn. Cockpit is already working with it

> IPv6 capability
Great yes

With Koozali SME Server v11 releasing Alpha 1 and working hard to get a full release we have not had enough time to devote to doing this.
Through our excellent contacts at Rocket.Chat a few of us are going to be mentoring some project there this year for experience (I did a couple last year).
I think that we will be in a much better place for this next year - more experience and more time.
With a full release out of the door we can really sit down and work on some of these items.

> IPv6 capability
Great yes
I am finally going to get an IPv6 block at my new UK office!
I had started testing this on v10 but will continue testing with v11.
