how can I connect as root vir telnet to my SME ?

You should use SSH and not telnet.  Telnet is not secure.
If you really need to know; it is telnet 192.xxx.xxx.xxx your e-smith ip address from a command line.

I'm not connected to the internet, so I have no need for security, but I can't connect via telnet to my SME. A connection to other telnetservers (my switch for example) work fine.

Enabled Telnet access in the server-manager.  Go to server manager, click on Remote Access, scroll to the bottom of the page, say YES to telnet access, click SAVE.  All instructions are for SME 5.1.2.

Unfortunately, that doesn't exactly do it. You can telnet as admin and use the console, but root logins are not allowed by default. This has been addressed multiple times on the forums. Search for PermitRootLogin.
