Title: Does RAV Antivirus work on linux?
Post by: Lennox on October 09, 2002, 06:21:54 PM
I am thinking of buying RAV Antivirus for my e-smith server 5.5, but first I wanted to know if anyone here has used it or installed it and how it did/does? I plan to buy the qmail component if the price is right.

I have used the RAV scanner successfully at my place of work and it is a *very* good and cost effective scanner. I recommend paying a visit to www.myezserver.com and requesting the download there, this will allow you access to a very comprehensive howto and all relevent patches needed to make rav function effectively on tem esmith box + there is even a configuration panel to make setting up a doddle!

i strongly urge you to consider buying rav from DMC Netsourced / MyEzserver.com as the amount of time and effort put into this packaging and optimisizing by the guys over there definitely deserves rewarding with your purchase.

Latest RAV includes full SPAM filtering, BWL. etc also.  Myezserver prepackaged install is a snip - 5 minutes tops!

I have installed it on 5.5 and the scan and update works fine, but not the ravmd, keep getting this error:

esmith ravmd[31857]: running as user: root(id=0) and group: admin(id=101)
esmith ravmd[31858]: starting RAV AntiVirus daemon...
esmith ravmd[31858]: loading configuration...
esmith ravmd[31858]: Configuration error: parse error
esmith ravmd[31858]: in the file  line:51.
esmith ravmd[31858]: aborted!
esmith ravmd[31857]: SUPERVISE: Please correct the above error(s) then start
RAV.

So I checked line 51 and it is:

admin_addr = *********

And behind the ******** is an existing mailbox too. I have tryed to set this value to postmaster, root, admin, but all get the same error.  All changes are made through the server manager panel. This was a clean install on 5.5.

I have not purchased it yet, still using the 8.3 30 day trail, is that why, do i need to buy it before it works properly?

Tanks,

I dont think I'll be using RAV, the install is for an office w/ 8 pc's and the fee is quite high. I think I'll try Clamav instead and see if I can get it to work.

Thanks.
