Error: the account "nicky" can't be created because there is already a user-deleted account of that name.
How do i get around this

Well, you could try following the suggestion at the top of this page to do a search; searching "user-deleted" should find your answer...

sorry i noticed as soon as i posted it

# /sbin/e-smith/db accounts delete xyz

where xyz is the user-deleted account
