Title: Net Upgrade Possible?
Post by: Theo on October 29, 2002, 10:23:57 AM
My SME 5.1.2 runs on an appliance box. No cd, no floppy. I could pull it apart, plug in a cd and do it that way, but I was just wondering if I had any othewr options? Like a boot img that would allow for a net install or something. Anyone tried anything like this?

Read the links on e-smith.org, there is reference to doing this somewhere there.

How do I do a network install?

You need to make the CDROM image available via NFS, FTP, SMB or HTTP from another machine on your network. You then need to customize a ks.cfg file on the floppy made from the bootnet.img file, to specify the IP address, protocol, etc of the network install.

Unless you are an experienced linux user, we suggest that you just temporarily attach a CDROM drive.
