Perhaps this has already been addressed here...
I'm in the process of converting my Mac G4 to OS X. I can still see the SME server (v.5.1.2) on my network and access all of the volumes I was able to in OS 9.
Here's my problem:
I'm trying to set up the latest version of Retrospect (v.5) to back-up the data being saved to the ibays on the SME box. The problem is, Retrospect sees the ibay, but not the data stored on the ibay. I thought perhaps it was a permissions problem, so I accessed the ibays as "admin" without any success. Is this a shortcoming in Retospect, OS X, or the SME server?
I guess I can go back to OS 9 and see if I can access the data and run my backups from there (I was able to using Retropect 4.3-but was limited to backup sets under 2GB in size, that's why I need to run 5). But I really don't see why I should, especially since OS X is Unix-based and Open Source friendly. I keep thinking it's a client setup problem.
Here's some more info...
OS X client network setup: DHCP, file sharing is on, Appletalk is on, connect via TCP/IP.
Also, when I copying files to and from the SME server via the OS X Finder, it's slooooow. Much slower than OS 9.
Any help would be appreciated...
