Which version of IMP does 5.5 come with installed and if it is 3.0 can someone give me instructions for installing 3.1

Can anyone give me instructions on how to install a .tar file i downloaded imp 3.1 and would like to install it but I am relatively new to installing things and have no Idea how to install a .tar file.  Thanks any and all help will be appreciated.

Search the forums here for imp 3.1.  there are plenty of discussion as well as the link for an install how to and rpm prebuilt.
