Title: IPtables or IPchains ?
Post by: Bobby on November 08, 2002, 06:51:14 AM
i was just wondering if e-smith worked on IPchains or IPtables. from what i have read on this site it uses IPchains. Is there a way to convert e-smith to use IPtables ?

Yep,  I believe the really old versions of E-Smith used IPtables, say before 4.12, then they switched to IPchains with 5.xx and above.  That's just a guess, but from posts it probably sounds accurate enough.  Do  a search "All Dates" if you want more details.

Actually, no, Terry, that isn't it.  The way to get e-smith/SME to use iptables is to wait for the release of 5.6.  All prior versions (at least back to 3.x) used ipchains.  I forget what the masqing code was called in the 2.0 kernels, but I don't think it was iptables.

ipfw (ipfwadm) :)  I think I ran E-Smith then, It's so long ago it's hard to remember.  I think I was running E-Smith on 2.0.33...could be a pipe dream though, could've been an RH box.
