Does anyone have a solution or mini howto for ripping mp3's in console mode on e-smith.
Ideally would like to insert a cd and the rest be automated

I don't think you are going to get much of a response on that one from this forum. But for a basic linux solution you may want to search freshmeat.net

Thanks,
After many hours searching i managed it myself. I asked here because most solution required compiling and my boxes arent setup for that.
Not being an audophile or upto date with mp3, i suspect binaries arent available due to mp3 patents or licensing.
I ended up with dagrab for ripping and gogo for encoding (found a really out of date i386.rpm but seems to work ok)
Now no need to tie up or grind to a halt my windoze desktop.

Cool!

Any chance you can get gother a list of what rpms you loaded to get things going,
I have a need for exactly that.
How are you playing the mp3's ??
May be able to return the favour above.

Gavin

Used the following rpm's
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 17996 Feb 19 2000 dagrab-0.3.5-1.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 107366 Jul 3 2000 gogo-2.35-1.i386.rpm
As i said a more upto date gogo would be better if anyone has one. dagrab includes a script to rip/encode a whole cd. I modified the script to 192kb/s
I use edna - which is a small web server written in python runs on the e-smith box and plays via browser/winamp on any windows box. Also via a windows box/samba to my two dell audio receivers.
All on SME 5.6 (early beta) ext 3 file system currently up
8:11pm up 50 days, 3:12, 1 user, load average: 1.19, 1.06, 1.01
Only because i havent booted it.
HTH
