Title: Can't receive email from outside world
Post by: Lester Bennett on December 02, 2002, 12:44:23 PM
I've setup an SME server in the following configuration.
Server only mode connecting to PCs and D-Link DSL-504 Router/Firewall.
DSL-504 is redirecting ports 25 and 80 to the server. this is not the clients main web server but I can acceit IP address. all users can send mail to both local and external addresses without a problem. The DNS MX record points to the external IP of the DSL-504 but it doesn't receive any email
Mail server is mail.brisbanefestival.com.au and the external IP of the DSL-504 is 150.101.179.150. IP address of the server is 192.168.1.2 and the internal side of the DSL-504 is 192.168.1.1.
I can't telnet to the external address either from inside or out but I can using the server address from inside.
I have RTFM, many times and searched the forums have had no luck working out how to allow the outside world to send mail. At present all incoming mail is going to the secondary mail server.
Any help and suggestions as to where to go from here would be greatly appreciated. Is it in the firewall rules or is it in the mail setup? I suspect the former but how do I modify the rules?

From here, I can't

telnet 150.101.179.150 25

either.  So I'd say the problem is the Linksys or your isp is blocking incoming port 25.  Most likely the latter as the Linksys is pretty straight forward.

Tony,
Thanks for your input. I had considered the ISP blocking port 25 but I had already phoned them and they assured me that they don't block any ports. Today I decided to call again to double check and again the same answer but the person I spoke to suggested resetting the router to factory defaults and reconfigure it.
I did this and set it up again exactly as it was before but this time it worked.
