Title: What is default password for e-smith version 4 or 4.1
Post by: Erwin Craps on December 05, 2002, 03:14:12 PM
Hi

I've been reading this forums for 3 hours now and can't seem to find the default password for e-smith server and gateway I believe version 4.1.xx but it could be 4.0 to.

I already searched about a year ago for this password and could not find it neither. I think I mailed to support and got the password. And then it worked.
Unfortunatly IO save the password somewhere and can't find it back.
Apparently the default password changed from a certain version on to something else.

I tried:
default
e-smith
esmith
password

(both in QWERTY and AZERTY keyboard)
None of them works.

Thx
Erwin

There is no 'default' password. It's given by a person at installation time. He/she is the only one who knows it.

Well

I'm very sure there is a default password.
I found it a year ago on the website (or e-mail from support) and used it successfully.

It may be "default".

If a password wasn't asked during setup, it might be "rootpw" "default".  I found this on the cd:   SME Server V5.5 > images > kickstart > install.cfg (look for #root password or something similar)
Maybe it is same for your version? I hope this will help you.

I recall seeing an article in here that told you how to boot your server into a special mode that allowed you to create a new root password without knowing the old one.

Here it is - dont know if will work with v4
