Title: Incoming and outgoing mail delayed by a day
Post by: Steve Hiner on May 09, 2000, 02:11:53 AM
My e-smith server running in multi-drop mode seems to only send and receive mail once per day.  If I send email late at night or early in the morning the server won't actually send it until the next evening.

Is there a way I can find out when qmail and fetchmail are trying to send/receive?

Is the attempt logged somewhere so I can find out if the email is just being delayed by my ISP?

I am running a 3.0 server with the patches to make it equivalent to 3.1, including the SMTPSmartHost patch (with the ISP's mail server IP).

Any ideas on how to diagnose the problem are welcome.  I am considering trying to scare up a spare machine to test this on a 4.0beta server - does 4.0beta handle email send/receive any differently than 3.x?

I'm still reading much into what e-smith has setup but here is what I know.

1) www.qmail.org has a command that you can change in the script to the number of mins it will take to pick up / deliver mail and what is considered office hours or not.

2)ver 4.0b7 has the option via web manager to change the pickup & send times.
