Title: DELL poweregde 350 install failed
Post by: Daley on December 09, 2002, 09:59:32 AM
Hi All,

pls help.

I got a DELL PowereEdge 350 box, 128RAM, 40GB harddisk etc.

Found the error during the SME 5.5 installation and stopped, is it the limitation to install the redhat linux over the 40GB harddisk?

partition check:
hda: hda1
VFS: Cannot open root device 08:42
Kernel panic: VPS: Unable to mount fs on 08:42

regards,
daley

If you do a search of the forum over the last 90 days you will find quite a few people having problems installing on the Poweredge and not recognizing the drives.
Seems to resolved by installing 5.6beta

I've installed SME 5.1.2 number of times on PowerEdge 350 and PowerEdge 100.
Every time I ended up pulling drives out of it and sticking them to generic PC, perform install and put them back to PE server. Something in their chipset is not recognized by kernel 2.2.x used in SME 5.1.2 and 5.5. Versions 4.1.2 and 5.6 work.
