Title: No PPPoE internet connection
Post by: Christoph Lelie on December 13, 2002, 11:27:03 AM
My new SME 5.5 router installation can't connect the internet. I am using DSL connection with PPPoE. When I look at the configuration, the external network connection is showed as:

Static IP address: 192.168.65.17

I think that is not correct. But I can't change this.
I am using two manually configured ISA NICs 3com 3c509. The internal network connection is working correctly.

Any idea?

On the SEMServer you must set the DSL modem facing NIC Ip to a static address, then make sure that the SMEServer facing NIC on the DSL modem IP address is on the subnet.

(I think!)

cheers

Hi Brian,

my DSL modem is using PPPoE and so the modem has no IP address, I think.

Christoph

Hey, I had this problem! same NIC, but then I came to realize that (from previous Linux experience) the module needed for those NICs were not in the installation.  So then I just changed to PCI NICS (my last two) and then everything worked.  If you know enough Linux you might be able to install the correct modules for those nics.  The 3C90x and 3C59x options will not work.  Hope that helped out some.

It's unbelievable, but the reason for no internet connection was: My provider had changed my user-name and did not inform me!

Now, everything is working fine (with ISA cards 3c509) and I'm online again.

Thanks for your replies!
