Title: IMAP e-smith and Pegasus...
Post by: Matt Q on December 18, 2002, 03:49:47 PM
Hi Guys,

I'm experiencing a problem using IMAP with Pegasus Mail. I can use Outlook okay (But it is horrid, so I'd rather not!) but when I try to use Pegasus, it fails saying an error occured with the Server. I managed to get a log from Pegasus of what the server said, here is a whole copy of it(with the old IP address masked...):

--- Tue, 17 Dec 2002 12:15:59 ---
Connect to 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' port 143, timeout 15.
12:15:59.325 >> 0063 * OK atm-parts-1.atm-parts.com IMAP4rev1 v12.264 server ready\0D\0A
12:15:59.325 << 0026 A1 LOGIN "sales" "sales"\0D\0A
12:15:59.430 >> 0023 A1 OK LOGIN completed\0D\0A
12:15:59.435 << 0015 A2 LIST "" ""\0D\0A
12:15:59.435 >> 0022 A2 OK LIST completed\0D\0A
12:15:59.435 << 0011 A2 LOGOUT\0D\0A
12:15:59.435 >> 0073 * BYE atm-parts-1.atm-parts.com IMAP4rev1 server terminating connection\0D\0A
12:15:59.435 >> 0024 A2 OK LOGOUT completed\0D\0A
--- Connection closed normally at Tue, 17 Dec 2002 12:15:59. ---

It all appears to run along ok, but Pegasus reports an error communicating with the server. If anyone who has experienced this could advise some kind of workaround that would be fantastic! Please don't make me use Outlook again!!

Thanx
Matt

Did you by chance search the forums?  Don't forget to search back farther than 30 days.  It would seem that Pegasus & SME don't like one another.  You might try using webmail, or Mozilla's email reader.

I've been spending quite some time getting this to work, but without success. Searching the internet didn't bring any help on this issue either, it seems unresolved. I thought about using a network packet analyser (you can find free or demo-programs) to figure out what the difference is between pegasus and other IMAP clients. I decided it wasn't worth it, but if you insist on pegasus, you can give it a try. There is no reason to return to outlook though, there's enough choice. (Eudora, The Bat, Mozilla, etc.)

i thought i'd update this with what i just setup successfully.  My problem was trying to migrate pegasus messages to Outlook, and after researching what the options are.  using IMAP seems to be the easiest and most reliable (when work).

I got into the same trouble when trying to use Pegasus IMAP client to connect to e-smith imap server.  I was finally able to connect Pegasus to e-smith imap server, but only after I change the default e-smith imap server to courier imap, found here http://www.neddix.de/sme/courier/index.php

I was able to copy/move messages from Pegasus to imap folders after that.

I try this because of at different occasion i had to do similar thing (copy/move messages to imap server).
with the default imap server, messages that's copy/move will be recognize as new e-mails.  Courier imap solves this problem.

correction..
with the default imap server, messages that's copy/move will be recognize as new e-mails and with today's date.  (which can be a real annoyance). Courier imap solves this problem preserving the date on the copied/moved emails.
