After changing my SME server from gateway mode (using ISDN dailup) to serveronly mode (connected through a cable-internet connection) I can't recieve any mail. The mail is stored on the pop3 server of a ISP. Do I need to change any of the email retrieval settings ? ( I would suspect that the server would use the pop3 protocol via the cable-internet connection to retrieve the mail). Thanks in advance.

If your method for email retrieval has not changed, then
Your IP has probably changed due to the new connection and your DNS records (MX for mail) need to be updated.
Who is hosting your DNS records?
Contact them to update the records.
Also, I have a SME 5.5 on a cable modem and just have all mail sent directly to my server, no storage at ISP. Works fine for me.

Hello Steve,
Thanks for your response. I was trying to avoid these DNS-issues by using the POP3 protocol for mail retrieval. The domain is hosted by the ISP and I do not have my DNS hosted. Am I making a mistake here?

Surely your server still needs to be in Server/Gateway mode?

Hi Ed,
My internet connection is protected by a firewall and the SME server is connected to the LAN behind that. I don't need to put the server into gateway-mode in this configuration, do I ?
Futhermore, I can retrieve email via pop3 from my outlook clients. Is the pop3 connector disabled when the server is in serveronly mode?
thanks !

No server only mode is fine for POP3 retrieval - I use this myself.
I would suggest re-entering all the fields in the admin panel and resaving it just incase something is screwed.

Hi Tim,
I did fill-out the e-mail retrieval settings within the server-manager, but with no succes. Is there way to check if the server takes any action for retrieving mail ?
Thanks, Marko
