Title: Desktop restore
Post by: Kieth on January 10, 2003, 02:41:33 AM
I have two machines. We are running SME 5.5
Testing Disaster recovery,
I've backed up the production box to the Desktop Win NT.
File size is about 843Mb.
Performing the restore to the second machine After a clean install.

The restore initializes fine (lots of disk activity for about 10 min.) then nothing.

I reboot the SME server there apears to be no change.

Should I be getting some kind of confirmation of completion of the restore from the server?

Hi Kieth,

I think that when you do the restore, you must wait for your browzer give you something like: "Backup restored successfull"... only them, the backup is restored.

the restore just untar's the backup
watch with ps -A, df & du etc
to see if your running out of disk space on the server for example

I did'nt mention, I ran the backup on my WinNT server
Made a copy of the back-up file to my WinXP workstation, then ran the restore from there.

This morning I was successful in restoring from the NTServer.(backup machine)
The interface responded back with a log of succesfully restored files

There must be a dependency to backup and restore from the same machine.
